Introduction:

On this International Education Day, we take a moment to shine a light on Action for Development’s (AfD) work, in which we actively contribute to the betterment of society in Afghanistan through our impactful education initiatives. Our transformative projects aim to uplift the lives of girls, street-working children, and individuals seeking vocational skills training.

Home-Based Schools for Girls:

AFD recognizes the pivotal role education plays in shaping a brighter future, especially for girls who, in many parts of the world, face barriers to accessing quality education. In Geneva, AFD has taken a step by establishing home-based schools tailored to meet the unique needs of girls. These schools provide a safe and conducive learning environment, fostering academic excellence and empowering girls to break free from the shackles of societal norms that may hinder their educational journey.

Schools for Street-Working Children:

AfD acknowledges the vulnerability of street-working children and understands the importance of helping them break from the cycle of poverty through education. In alignment with its mission, AfD operates three schools dedicated to street-working children in Afghanistan.

Vocational Skills Training:

Beyond traditional education, AfD recognises the significance of vocational skills in equipping individuals with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. The organization runs vocational skills training programs, providing practical knowledge and hands-on experience in various fields. This empowers individuals to gain independence and secure employment.

Challenges and Future Endeavours:

While AFD celebrates its achievements, it remains committed to addressing the challenges that persist in the realm of education. Our organisation is dedicated to continuous improvement, exploring innovative solutions, and expanding its reach to ensure that education becomes a reality for all, regardless of socio-economic background.

Conclusion:

As we mark Education Day on the 24th of January, let us applaud the work we conduct in Afghanistan. By providing home-based schools for girls, establishing schools for street-working children, and offering vocational skills training, AfD contributes to a future where education is a beacon of hope. Together, we stand united in the pursuit of a world where education is not just a privilege but a fundamental right for all.
