Recommendations ahead of the 2020 Afghanistan Conference: Protecting Education and Addressing Child Protection Challenges

The event helped raise awareness on the crisis of education and child protection in Afghanistan, including progress since 2001 and remaining challenges. Speakers highlighted comprehensive recommendations including on ensuring girls’ access to education, responding to attacks on education, scaling up community-based education – and the need for an increase in sustainable multi-year funding for education and child protection. Children represent the single greatest assets to achieve peace, recovery and prosperity for Afghanistan. A failure to invest adequately in the protection and rights of all children in Afghanistan, including quality education, will undermine any effort for sustained change.

Inclusion and Education: the impact on girls

This article takes into consideration the gender perspective towards inclusion in education, focusing on girls’ access to education in Afghanistan. In particular, we focus on Action for Development’s “school for street-working children” program in Kabul, aiming at providing equal access to school for the community’s most marginalized boys and girls.
