Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being at all ages is essential to sustainable development (UN Sustainable Development Goals). We provide affordable health services and specialize in midwifery training, so mothers and children are no longer left behind.

Formation Des Sages-Femmes

The AfD has been actively involved in reducing infant and maternal mortality in Afghanistan through midwifery training. From 2014 to 2022, more than 950 midwives underwent specialized training, with over 150 becoming qualified trainers. These trainers then cascaded the training to other midwives in their communities. The program has been implemented in eight provinces across Afghanistan.

La Formation De Docteurs En Santè Reproductive

Since its inception, Action for Development (AfD) has been dedicated to addressing Afghanistan’s healthcare crisis. A primary challenge the country grapples with is the absence of effective reproductive health education. This becomes especially crucial given that women in Afghanistan typically bear up to 10 children in their lifetime. Notably, Afghanistan holds the highest infant mortality rate globally and is positioned 22nd in maternal mortality on the global scale.

Projet De Nutrition

In 2017, AfD became a participant in the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) global movement. Subsequently, in 2019, we received a grant from the SUN Pooled Fund for Afghanistan to enhance the efforts of the Afghanistan Civil Society Alliance (CSA) in addressing malnutrition within the country. According to the 2013 National Nutrition Survey, around 41% of children experienced stunted growth, while 9.5% faced wasting. Presently, malnutrition remains a significant issue among the youngest patients seeking care at our Community Health Center (CHC) in Kabul.

Primary Health Centre

Established in 2013, the Shaheed Abdul Razaq Primary Health Center by Action for Development serves as a vital healthcare hub in Khawja Bughra District, north of Kabul. Catering to 60,000 people, including those beyond Kabul province, the center offers essential maternal and child health services, such as family planning, ante/post-natal care, nutrition screening, micronutrient supplementation, and vaccination. With 11 staff members, including female medical personnel, the center provides an OPD service, on-site laboratory, ultrasound facility, and pharmacy, while actively engaging in training community health workers.

Call For Action! Action For Development Is Partnering With One Day’s Wages On Developing The Capacity Of Midwives!

Afghanistan has contended with a persistently high global maternal mortality rate for an extended period. Since 2001, the nation has grappled with a significant midwife shortage, having only 1,000 practitioners. To mitigate this shortfall, the new government decided to recruit midwives from neighboring countries and shortened the mandatory midwifery training period from three years to 18 months. While this step aimed to increase the number of qualified midwives, the condensed training duration left many feeling unprepared for handling intricate situations, such as breech deliveries or retained placenta.
